New anti-COVID restrictions could be implemented in Chisinau
Wearing the mask in the public space - even on the street - could become mandatory in Chisinau, and the activity of some economic agents could be stopped due to the very large number of COVID-19 infections. These are just some of the restrictions that could be imposed by the end of the week by the Municipal Commission for Public Health.
The new measures are being considered given that intensive care units for patients with COVID-19 no longer have vacancies.
"The elections have passed and we must return by force to certain restrictive measures," said Boris Gilca, the deputy head of the municipal health directorate.
Mayor Ion Ceban requested the approval of the measures proposed by the Municipal Health Directorate.
"We need to restrict certain recreational activities, to examine some commercial activities, including markets. To partially return to lockdown at night and on weekends, but I do not know if we are ready to close the borders," said the deputy head of the municipal directorate in health, Boris Gîlca.
The postponed work schedule for civil servants will also be taken into account, so that there will be no more congestion in public transport in the morning and after 4 pm.
In Chisinau, the situation is alarming. According to experts, one in three people with flu symptoms is diagnosed with COVID-19.
"I was surprised to see on the news that some clubs are active, why the competent bodies do not carry out controls, this is already falling under the incidence of criminal cases," said Boris Gîlca, deputy head of the municipal health department.
The inhabitants of the Capital agree that some restrictions had to be reintroduced a long time ago.
So far, more than 38,000 cases of COVID-19 and nearly seven hundred deaths have been reported in Chisinau due to complications of the disease.
