New discoveries in Costești, Ialoveni district. Near the medieval city, dating back to the 14th century, archaeologists found five graves.

The bodies were not buried in the previously investigated cemetery, but separately. Experts believe this site to be filled with many artifacts.

This year, the excavation was resumed on the site from Costeşti, after a skull was found resulting a landslide. Anthropologist will following establish the gender and age of the deceased.

The works begun two days ago, while archaeologists remained amazed by their findings. The few graves proved that on that land lived people.

"We believe that the graves were older, as they would not exist with the medieval city simultaneously" archaeologist Vlad Vornic said.

Experts claim that the artifacts date back to the 14th century, while the presence of two ceramic vases near the skeleton proves that it dates back to the gold rush. This is the first discovery of this kind. Usually, the vases were buried near the heads, legs or even graves.

"In this case we speak of a vase set above the grave. Either it was placed there after the burial, or set on purpose during the burial" archaeologist Ion Ciobanu said.

Archaeologists claim that near the graves was also located a dump, as numerous ceramic fragments and animals bones were discovered.

"A piece of a jug, where the fingerprints of the potter can still be seen. It was most likely used to either keep or pour drinks" director of the National Archaeological Agency, Vlad Vornic explained.

In the zone were discovered five graves, among which one belongs to a child. A total of 18 skeletons were discovered on the archaeological site.
