Apa-Canal Chisinau company modernized eight pumping stations after an investment worth seven million Euro. The project will bring one million lei monthly.
"We will save about 360,000 kilowatts per month and the benefits will be significant for both Apa-Canal and all consumers of the city", said Valeriu Mesca, director of S.A. "Apa-Canal Chisinau".
It is the first time, after more than three decades, when the pumping stations have been renovated.
"We are not stopping here, we still have many projects in the plan, but, as we have said, for us, as a city, is the most important comfort of the citizens, not to have water leaks, to have frequent disruptions, to be pressure on pipes and the quality of drinking water to be level", said Ruslan Codreanu, the interim mayor of Chisinau.
The project was built on investments made by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank and a grant from the EU. Under the program, 140 kilometers of water supply networks, seven kilometers of sewerage networks will be rehabilitated and the Chisinau Wastewater Treatment Plant will be renovated.
"The new water pumping station is just a part of the good news. Other projects are in the process of delivering better services both in terms of good water supply and wastewater treatment here in Chisinau", said Angela Sax, director of the EBRD office in Chisinau.
Currently, for every cubic meter of water, household consumers pay 10 lei and 69 bani, and the economic agents: 24 lei and 46 bani.
