Number of domestic violence cases drops in Moldova

Fewer cases of domestic violence and more calls to the police concerning family conflicts, according to the police’s statistics.
1,670 cases were recorded in 2016, 235 fewer year on year.
Women are the victims most often: over 1,500 were subjected to aggression.
There were also 300 men as victims of aggression.
1,600 of aggressors were men attacking their spouses or infants.
There were over 10,000 calls to the police, that’s 1,260 more than in 2015.
In 2016, Vlad Plahotniuc’s Edelweiss Foundation launched a company called ‘Protected Families’ aimed at preventing abuses against women and children.
A hotline was opened for kids as part of the drive: 116-111.
