Our state will save millions of lei, due to an invention discovered by scientists of the National Centre for Public Health.

It is a method for detecting hepatitis B virus, with hidden blood donors patented last year.

This will prevent the spread of infection and contribute to reducing the incidence of chronic hepatitis B virus.

The investigation lasted five years, the scientists found the virus, hidden in 109 blood samples donated from 75 000 samples studied.

Hidden form of the hepatitis B virus is found in donors with strong immunity. It is impossible to find in the medical investigations and laboratory tests approved by the World Health Organization.

Because scientists, doctors at the National Centre for Blood Transfusion fail to detect six of 100 willing to donate blood hepatitis B. If the blood that would reach the body of a man immunocompromised, then it is likely to develop the disease.

The problem is even more serious given that the state spends thousand euros to treat a case of chronic viral hepatitis.

For this invention, researchers from the National Centre for Public Health have achieved six gold medals in an international conference of innovation and technology transfer.

In our country, 1,54 acute hepatitis B cases per 100 thousand inhabitants are recorded annually, double the European states.
