PAS MPs on Chisinau Airport transaction: High risk to Moldovan security and homeland betrayal
President Igor Dodon surrendered Moldova to Russians. This accusation came from some MPs of the Action and Solidarity Party after speculation that the International Chisinau Airport fell under Russian investor's management. While Dodon denies any involvement, some politicians equate giving up the airport with treason.
Parliament Vice-President Mihai Popşoi said Russian taking over the airport poses a real danger to Moldova.
"The risk to the Moldovan security would be far too high that an object of strategic importance would reach into the hand of forces that still have troops present on the territory of the country. It would be on the verge of betrayal of homeland", said PAS MP Mihai Popşoi.
According to PAS MP Dumitru Alaiba, President Igor Dodon is behind the new airport transaction. On his Facebook page, he wrote that Igor Dodon deliberately surrendered the airport on the holidays when the public were distracted by other topics.
Democrat Andrian Candu was also disappointed that the airport came under the influence of Russia due to the naivety or with the good knowledge of the pro-Europeans who took over the government in June and other objectives related to state security. Thus, Moldova strengthens its "gray area" position in which the country is away from development and evolution, he said.
President Igor Dodon rejected the allegations and said he had no knowledge about this transaction. He restated his strong reservations about the handling of the airport. He stated that Russian investors remained interested in Moldova, mentioning Chisinau airport and the port of Giurgiulesti in this context.
The Guernsey-based company NR Investments Ltd gave up on the 95 percent of Avia Invest, the Moldovan company that currently manages the Chișinău International Airport. Avia Invest and NR Investments Ltd ratified the purchasing agreement in August 2019.
