PCCOCS results from 2017 and aims for 2018
Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cause has evaluated its activity from 2017.
Therefore, from the previous year's 2930 cases were finalized 630, from which 441 were sent to the court.
It must be mentioned that there were: 92 human trafficking and linked crime cases, 62 drug trafficking cases, 92 contraband cases, 26 tax evasion cases. After the activity of Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cause in 2017, the damage recovered within investigations of the public budget and the victims amounts to 29 678 707 lei.
While the damage from cases sent to the court, a total amount of 160 916 617 lei was calculated.
From the damage established by the court to the state, until this moment, were reimbursed 46 262 541 lei. At the same time, after confiscating from defendants illegally gained goods and income, were gathered 18 283 328 lei. Goods worth 123 443 689 lei were also confiscated by prosecutors, inclusively from cases which remained opened in 2018.
The court is currently examining a total of 713 cases. By now, 292 sentences were given to 442 people (375 men, 51 women, 5 minors and 11 officials). From those, 128 judgments upon 199 defendants were based on evidence gathered during the criminal investigation. This number consists 45% of the criminal cases solved by judges.
The punishments included: 135 sentences to death, 140 imprisoned, 72 fined and another 4 punished with community service.
At the same time, in 2017 PCCOCS prosecutors have examined 2 427 calls from citizens.
Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cause has established its aims for 2018, taking into consideration the need to continue transparency in its activity, and informing the society of the results of complex and important criminal investigations and court decisions.
One of the aims the Prosecutor's Office has set for this year is ensuring a reasonable time frame for criminal investigations.
At the same time, collecting prejudice, punishing the guilty, combating contraband and tax evasion, collaborating with all public institutions, as well as mass media, are the aims set on the agenda of Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cause.
At the moment, in Moldova, Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cause has 6 prosecutors in the branch from the North (two being delegates), one office in the South, with 5 prosecutors, with one vacancy. In 2017, PCCOCS has also dispatched 6 officers and 2 investigators.
