People fit for work who wish to receive social assistance will have to perform community service
People who receive social assistance, but are fit for work and are not employed, will have to perform community services.
The new law was approved today by deputies. It will apply to all families that receive social assistance of more than 288 lei and have a monthly minimal income of 961 lei.
The project is meant to make unemployed people to take part in community services. The idea was forwarded after some Mayors complained that many people registered solely to receive unemployment benefits.
According to the document, the list of all those who will do community services will be drawn by social assistants and forwarded to the Mayor. The local authorities will have to come up with a plan so that the number of hours will not go over 40 per months, calculated based on the amount of money they receive.
Those who will refuse to work will no longer receive assistance. This law does not apply to mothers that take care of their children, people with disabilities, elders and people with ill health.
