President Igor Dodon does not wish for a new Embassy of the United States to be built
President Igor Dodon does not agree for the new Embassy of the United States to be build in place of the Republican Stadium. The declaration was made by the head of state during a live stream on a social media. Igor Dodon mentioned that he told United States Ambassador to Moldova, James Pettit, that they will speak on this subject only after the general elections.
"I am curious why they would need five hectares in the center of Chisinau? I believe this to be incorrect. The stadium's territory is meant for the people, it would be more fair for a stadium to be build, a park or a cultural center" Igor Dodon said.
A weeks ago, James Pettit, declared for Publika that the acquisition of the land for the construction of a new Embassy of the United States will be transparent and fair. The official explained that the current building, which dates back to the 19th century, is old and small, forcing staff members to work in offices placed in different regions of the Capital.
At the moment, the former Republican Stadium has a surface of over five hectares, is a public property and is in ruins.
