Princess of Denmark in official visit to Moldova as representative of World Health Organization

Princess Mary of Denmark is in a three-day official visit to Moldova at the invitation of Minister of Health.
As a regional representative of the World Health Organization for Europe, Her Royal Highness will assist specialists in maternal and child health, immunization and combating antibiotic resistance.
Health issues and reforms carried out with the support of WHO will be discussed during the visit. Special attention will be given to the development of the National Strategy for combating microbial resistance to antibiotics and infections in hospitals.
"We shall implement together the reform of hospitals, long overdue reform. Awareness and continuing information campaigns on the need for vaccination, another topic of discussion and most importantly the work plan for the next period", said Health Minister Ruxandra Glavan.
WHO representatives have praised the results achieved by our country in combating infectious diseases, maternal and infant mortality.
"You have a good immunization program and coverage high childhood immunization. The challenge is to maintain these results, and to not let those who oppose vaccination to influence this progress. This is the most effective and least expensive way to prevent infectious diseases" , said WHO regional Director for Europe Zsuzsanna Jakab.
With the support of WHO, Ministry of Health managed to combat the transmission of syphilis from mother to child,the disease that causes neonatal deaths in 80-per-cent of cases.
