The multi-purpose complex Arena Chisinau could be a better choice to accommodate COVID-19 suspects as the arena has a capacity of over 1,000 beds, dozens of toilets and showers, including access for the disabled. This is the opinion of MPs of the parliamentary group PRO MOLDOVA. 

On a Facebook post, PRO MOLDOVA argued that Chisinau Arena has an area of eight thousand square meters, compared to the five thousand square meters of the exhibition center Moldexpo. Furthermore, there may be separate working space for doctors, accommodation and recreation facilities for medical workers, kitchens and cafes, as well as offices. The parliamentarians mention that the Chisinau Arena also has an efficient ventilation system.

Also, an extremely important thing is that this building is isolated by the Capital and has over 1,000 parking spaces. By comparison, maximum 700 beds can be arranged within the Moldexpo center, as announced by the authorities. The parliamentary group considers that the figure is exaggerated because the organization of reception, arrangement of equipment, medicines or working space for medical workers was not considered.

Moreover, there are no showers and the ventilation system is outdated. The center is in a residential area, with thousands of houses and apartments nearby. Deputies wonder why the Government has not taken these details into account and does not want to turn the Chisinau Arena into a sorting facility for COVID-19 suspects.

Prime Minister's adviser Vitalie Dragancea didn't immediately answer our phone to comment on this topic.
