Protest with tractors in several regions of Moldova. Farmers ask for help from the state (PHOTO / VIDEO)
Farmers from 12 districts of Moldova protested today in 6 regions of the country. Farmers from Causeni, Anenii Noi and Stefan Voda districts blocked the Causeni-Chisinau highway with their agricultural machinery. Farmers from Ungheni, Calarasi and Nisporeni districts protested with tractors on the Ungheni-Chisinau national highway. Farmers from Hânceşti, Ungheni, Călăraşi, Nisporeni, Cantemir, Leova, Ştefan Vodă, Căuşeni, Basarabeasca, Anenii Noi, Cimişlia and Orhei districts announced their participation in the protests. If the Executive does not come up with solutions, farmers do not rule out roadblocks.
Earlier, the government announced that it had allocated 200 million lei and that each farmer would receive 1,000 lei per hectare for the compromised crops. However, farmers claim that the losses exceed 6 thousand lei per hectare, and the compensations are too small.Last week, the prime minister announced the allocation of another 100 million lei from the reserve fund. According to the prime minister, the losses caused by the drought amount to over 900 million lei.
We tried to get a comment from the Government on today's protest. The press officer of the institution, Marina Nani, asked us for a written request to which we have not received any answer yet. Minister of Agriculture, Ion Perju, did not answer the phone.
