Remnants of a medieval village that date since Stefan cel Mare's period were discovered by archaeologists near Valcinet, Calarasi district. It is supposed to be the hearth of Vălcineţ village, and the town today, that is more than one kilometer away, would have started here.
During the excavations, a complex was formed from a semi-dwelling house and an open-air oven. If the traces of the house are less visible, the oven is perfectly contoured.
"This is the shape of the furnace proper." This layer of black-brown burning, about 10 centimeters thick, denotes a lasting use, it was once probably vaulted, about 30-35 centimeters above the plow blade, said Sergiu Matveev, archaeologist.
Here were pieces of ceramics, nails and other metallic objects.
"Here is the upper part of a pitcher, we have here the tower, we see that here it is united here too, and here is the mouth and the drain", said Vlad Vornic, archaeologist, director of the National Archeology Agency.
"We have to say that such rural settlements in the last 30 to 40 years have not been researched, so new scientific data are being obtained to understand this period, for which we have few written documents".
The archaeological excavations are made on the route of the Ungheni - Chisinau gas pipeline, the construction of which must begin in September. Until now the sites of Mileşti, Peticeni and Călăraşi have been investigated.
