Romania offers Moldova 550 thousand euros for Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline
The Cabinet of Ministers approved today a decision on signing of cooperation program for 2016 laying down the procedures and possible legal allocation of funds to be received from Romania for construction of Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline.
The Government of Romania will stipulate to Moldova a grant of 550 thousand euros, to develop detailed engineering for the construction of Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline, which is the second phase of construction of the natural gas pipeline interconnect transport systems of Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
The main objective is the development of energy infrastructure and providing a new source of natural gas to Moldova.
The non-refundable amount of 550 thousand euros will be allocated to Moldova under the Agreement signed in Bucharest in April 2010 regarding the implementation of technical and financial assistance under the financial aid which is worth 100 million euros for Moldova.
At the bilateral meeting of Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Dacian Ciolos, in August 2016 in Chisinau, the sides agreed to step up cooperation in the energy field, through the initiation and development of projects in the interconnection of transmission networks for electricity and natural gas in Romania and Moldova, while the priority expanding of the gas pipeline Iasi – Ungheni on Ungheni – Chisinau segment.
