Round two of local elections to take place on November 3
Citizens in 380 settlements will vote for their mayors in the runoff election on November 3. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has kicked off the period for electoral campaigns today.
Following the round one of local election for Chisinau mayoralty, the Socialist Party candidate Ion Ceban and the bloc ACUM's candidate Andrei Nastase obtained the most votes, as it happened in last year's polls.
Ion Ceban obtained in the local elections on 20 October over 40 percent of the votes, and Andrei Nastase – over 31 per cent of votes. According to CEC, in the first round, approximately 330,000 people cast their votes, which accounts for 36% of the voting citizens.
In the second round, the first two candidates who received the highest number of votes in the elections on October 20 will be registered in the ballots. If one of them withdraws from the race no later than 7 days before the election, the election will be held between the remaining candidate and the next candidate who has accumulated the highest number of votes in the first round.
The ballots for the election of the mayor of the village (the commune), the city (the municipality) will be printed according to the models approved by the Commission for the general local elections on 20 October.
Voting in the second round of general local elections will be based on the same electoral lists used in the first round.
Until November 1, at 4:00 pm, the electoral competitors will present the reports on the incomes and expenses of the electoral campaign for the second round of elections or they will inform about the fact that they did not open / reopen the account with the mention "Electoral fund" and did not bear financial expenses. The parties, other social-political organizations, the electoral blocks will present the respective report (or will inform about the opening of the account) to the CEC, and the independent candidates - to the constituency electoral councils.
