Russia - Moldova tabled Moldovan anti-propaganda law
Moldovan Foreign Affairs Minister Nicu Popescu also discussed the anti-propaganda law with his Russian counterpart during his visit to Moscow. The minister confirmed in a press conference.
"Our Russian colleagues mentioned this issue. My answer was that the laws were adopted and modified in Parliament. I don't think the parliamentary majority would like to change this law at the moment", said Nicu Popescu.
Earlier, the president of the Socialist Party, Zinaida Greceanii, declared that the ruling alliance could renounce the anti-propaganda law. According to the PSRM leader, relations between Moldova and Russia became tense after the former democratic government adopted this initiative.
According to the amendments, the notion "info security" was introduced into the code of audiovisual (CA). The term provides: "state of protection of info resources, including a set of measures to ensure protection of individuals, society and state against possible misinfo and/or manipulative external info and for not admitting media challenges facing Moldova".
The CA was added by an article stating that broadcasting of television and radio programmes with info, analytical, military and political content that are produced in EU member states, USA, Canada, as well as in states which ratified the European Convention on Transfrontier Television (CETT), a document which Russia did not ratify.
President Igor Dodon also rejected this document twice which resulted the suspension of activities of the head of state temporarily.
