Today Chișinău marks 580 years from its first historical mention. City-folks and guests gather on the Great National Assembly Square, where they have fun since morning. 

"Chişinău is and will be developing. Only he who does not have ears to hear and eyes to see won’t recognize this," stated Chişinău mayor Dorin Chirtoacă. 

After pouring wine into glasses, he invited everybody to a hora – a national dance.

The first deputy president of the Democratic Party, Vlad Plahotniuc, has also sent a congratulating message to the town-folks and their guests.

"May you have a shining and beautiful holiday and may you enjoy today’s celebration," he posted on Facebook.

He says Chişinău does have its history and character, and its being modernized requires responsible work.

Vlad Plahotniuc adds: "We live in Chişinău day by day and have the duty to cherish and develop it."
