A Ukrainian national is under investigation for attempting to smuggle amber in large proportions.

He was held up at the Cahul–Oancea border crossing point.

Being corporeally verified, the border police and customs officers have found about 10 kg of amber stones of different shapes and sizes.

Scanning the car, objects were seen in the spare wheel.

A criminal file was opened for smuggling and the 32-year-old Ukrainian was detained for 72 hours.

If the man is found guilty, he will face 3 to 10 years of prison.
