State Secretary Daniela Morari participated UN International Migration Dialogue held in New York
In the framework of the UN International Migration Dialogue held in New York on 26-27 March, State Secretary Daniela Morari presented the national experience in the field of migration, with emphasis on the Mobility Partnership Moldova - European Union.
Presenting the national experience in this field, Daniele Morari also spoke about the importance in promoting legal migration, preventing illegal migration, and efforts to harness the opportunities offered by migration to achieve national development goals.
The event gathered ministerial government representatives as well as senior officials from the United Nations system, who discussed the importance of partnerships in managing migration, the complexity of the phenomenon, the involvement of government institutions and society as a whole in the effective management of this phenomenon, etc.
In the margins of the International Migration Dialogue, State Secretary Daniela Morari also participated in the secondary event on Migration and Rural Development organized by the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD).
The discussion highlighted the contribution of legal migration to the development of rural areas through such instruments as remittances and knowledge transfer.
Additionally, the participants in the event addressed the negative impact of climate change on rural areas.
The event served as a platform for exchanging best practices, as well as capitalizing on this dimension in the Global Compact for Migration negotiations.
In 2016, UN member states launched a consultation process to develop and adopt the Global Compact on Safe, Ordered and Legal Migration.
Negotiations on the Global Compact will be finalized in July 2018 and its adoption will take place at a high-level conference scheduled for 10-11 December 2018 in Morocco.
