The president of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ), Ion Druță, announced to file a request for resignation early next week. 

In a statement, quoted by the portal bizlaw.md, Ion Druță states that he made this decision after the dismissal of members of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), within the General Assembly of Judges.

Druţă also mentions that he wants to avoid speculation or suspicion towards the entire court system.

In 04/2018, Ion Druță was proposed to the Parliament for the appointment as SCJ president, for a term of four years.

In 06/2019, Druță was dismissed but was reinstated a month later when the Chisinau Court of Appeal accepted the challenge against the SCM.

There are only three members in SCM now after the dismissal: the Minister of Justice and two university professors, insufficient to make decisions.

In case the activity of the SCM is blocked, the examination of the resignation request of SCJ president will only be possible after October 25, when other judges will be elected as members of the SCM.

On September 24, SCM accepted the request of Acting General Prosecutor Dumitru Robu, and lifted Ion Druță's immunity. SCJ President is criminally prosecuted for illicit enrichment.
