The 12th case regarding Banca de Economii frauds finalized. Five former credit committee members to stand trial
Anticorruption Prosecutors have finalized and sent to the court the 12th case, accusing 5 former members of the of the Banca de Economii's credit committee for breaching credit rules, causing the bank damages in particularly large proportions.
From the gathered evidence, prosecutors believe that between 2007-2012 the former president, along with four members of the credit committee, have offered non-performing loans to 52 economic agents in a total amount of 2.2 billion lei.
Although, according to the legislation, the credit committee's intervention was required and the granting of credits was to be stopped with the immediate recovery of the granted financial means, the suspects have not taken any actions, causing massive damages to the institution.
The former president of the credit committee of Banca de Economii has confessed his guilt.
At the same time, Anticorruption Prosecutors have sent to the court 14 criminal charges against the suspects for allowing the issuance of multiple non-performing loans from Banca de Economii's resources.
Former president of Banca de Economii's credit committee is currently placed under preventive detention, while his accomplices are being investigated.
In order to recover the damages caused to Banca de Economii, several seizures have been ordered, including the property belonging to the suspects.
For their crimes, the accused can receive a 7 year sentence.
