Three patrol officers arrested for corruption. How they extorted money from drivers
Three patrol inspectors, among whom counts a commandant, were arrested by anticorruption prosecutors and SPIA officers, on suspicion of passive corruption.
According to the investigation, the patrol inspectors were activating on a road, at the entrance to a village from Fălești district. There, the officers pulled over cars, claiming that the drivers were drunk. After multiple discussions and negotiations, manifesting improper behavior the suspects would demand between 1 000 and 10 000, both in lei and Euro.
In exchange for the extorted money, the inspectors were not documenting cases of drunk driving.
Furthermore, it was established that the drivers that were pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving were selectively made to take a breath test, with an unidentified breathalyzer.
After searching the car, office and houses of the suspects, were confiscated money, as well as other evidence proving their actions.
The patrol inspectors were arrested for 72 hours. If found guilty, they risk between 5 to 10 years sentence with a fine to 8 000 conventional units.
