Two Audiovisual Council members asked AC President Dragoș Vicol to resign
Dorina Curnic and Veronica Cojocaru, two members of the Audiovisual Council demand the resignation of president of the institution Dragoș Vicol. The request was made at today's council meeting. The two members of the Board accuse Dragoş Vicol of defective management within the institution. He, in turn, denies those invoked by his colleagues.
"I request you to resign from the position of President of the Council. I think that your managerial activities during the past months are very ineffective", said Dorina Curnic.
Moreover, Dorina Curnic motivated her request by the fact that Dragoş Vicol deliberately ordered the organization of seven consecutive meetings while she was on leave.
Curnic also says that Vicol aims to oust her, invoking the Code of Audiovisual Media Services, which states that the absence of a member of the Audiovisual Council from seven consecutive meetings leads to his/her release from office. Dorina Curnic, however, decided to give up her vacation abroad and attend the Audiovisual Council meetings, although she is not obliged to do so.
"Seven sessions were held within 12 working days. An electoral campaign doesn't hold such many meetings. The topics were technical ones. It was deliberately created to dismiss me", said Dorina Curnic.
Meanwhile, Dragoş Vicol rejects the accusations of his colleagues and refers to a procedure regarding the discipline of the council members in the workplace, which was recently implemented.
"There are some frustrations concerning the lack of responsibility for the membership of the Audiovisual Council. Moreover, when she went on vacation, I was not informed as it would be understandable from my point of view to know if she will be in the country or abroad. "
According to the Code of audiovisual media services, the president of the institution can be dismissed, by secret ballot, at the proposal of three members and with the vote of at least six members of the Audiovisual Council.
Last month, Prime Minister Maia Sandu came to the meeting of the Audiovisual Council and asked for dismissal of many AC members. Some of them claimed these actions as pressure over the institution.
Also in July, the members of the Parliament's Culture Commission rejected the activity report of the Audiovisual Council, for 2018, and proposed to the Parliament to dismiss the members of the Board.
The code of audiovisual media services, however, stipulates that, during the term of office, the members of the institution are immovable, ie they cannot be dismissed from office. In this context, PM Maia Sandu offered to amend the legislation to dismiss them.
