Two children from Capital's suburbs hospitalized over fears of roseola were discharged
Two children from the Capital's suburbs were hospitalized in Municipal Hospital for Infectious Diseases, suspected of roseola contamination. Test have shown that it was a false alarm.
Still, Moldova is currently experiencing an outbreak. In Ukraine, since the beginning of 2018, were registered 1 300 cases, while in Romania, only last week - 86 cases.
The two brothers from Tohatin have shown symptoms similar to roseola. Head of Health Directorate from the Capital, Mihai Moldovanu, declared that in Moldova such cases have yet to be registered, as shots against this disease are mandatory.
"I wish to announce that in Republic of Moldova, children receive shots, we have a program for national immunization, which is completed over 95%, as the program foresees" Mihai Moldovanu said.
Roseola, is a viral illness that is usually marked by several days of high fever, followed by a distinctive rash just as the fever breaks. One out of four people who suffer from this disease require hospitalization, while one out of a thousand passes away.
Vaccination can prevent it. In this context, interim Mayor, Silvia Radu, requested a campaign to be launched to promote vaccination.
"I believe it to be our duty to urge people, mothers, to vaccinate their children, especially against roseola, which reduces contamination and deaths caused by this illness. We must promote a campaign for child vaccination" Silvia Radu said.
The last cases of roseola were registered in Moldova in 2011 and 2012, in children who returned from abroad.
