United States Congress has approved a resolution regarding Republic of Moldova. Through this document, United States supports Republic of Moldova's decision to associate with European Union and requests Russia to withdraw its troops and munition which are being kept illegally in our country.

United States has enjoyed stable and positive relations with the Republic of Moldova for over 25 years. Having provided financial assistance to support the people of Moldova's efforts to build a prosperous European democracy since its declaration of independence in 1991.

United States Government supports the democratic aspirations of the people of Moldova and their expressed desire to deepen their association with the European Union, as well as the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova.

The Congress also assured that United States will continue offering assistance on reforms that strengthen the justice sector, bolster democratic institutions, promote an open and transparent government, foster indigenous independent media and an open information environment, diversify energy supplies, increase energy security, and promote inclusive economic growth by focusing on the rural areas beyond the capital, enhancing investment opportunities, and increasing trade and job creation.

United States also encouraged Moldova to continue implementing crucial reforms to ensure good governance, increase the capacity of and trust in democratic institutions, and strengthen the justice sector through anti-corruption efforts, transparency, tolerance, support for the rule of law, and maintaining open space for civil society to operate.

Within the document United States Congress requests  Government of the Russian Federation to fulfill its commitments made at the Istanbul summit of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in 1999 and to withdraw its military forces and munitions from within the internationally recognized territory of Moldova.

PUBLIKA.MD reminds that previously, Parliament of Republic of Moldova requested Russia to withdraw its troops and ammunition from Transnistria. A declaration for this being drawn up by Democratic Party of Moldova.

In the declaration the Parliament of Republic of Moldova mentions that Russian troops located in the country's east are breaching the constitution for independence, sovereignty and integrity of Republic of Moldova.
