Vlad Plahotniuc: Road Traffic Safety is a field that previously did not receive enough attention
PDM Presdient, Vlad Plahotniuc, mentioned during the party's weekly meeting that the National Road Traffic Safety Council will be reorganized into a Road Safety Coordination Center. The project was discussed in the Government and aims to reduce the number of accidents and increase the safety of of citizens on roads.
"At the weekly meeting, we spoke of road traffic safety, an area that did not received enough attention and requires a complete strategic change and elaboration of a consistent plan. There used to be a National Road Traffic Safety Council.
Therefore, we spoke today for this Council to be reorganized into a Road Safety Coordination Center, which will have clear and firm measures, an action plan to reduce the number of accidents and to increase the safety of our citizens. It is a project that will be coordinated by Prime Minister and we expect for more attention to be offered to this area in the near future, while citizens to travel safer on public roads.
Those who have a crucial role in road traffic safety are, of course, officers of the National Patrol Inspectorate, that is responsible of monitoring the traffic. As we all know, we always evaluate the results of actions taken by the governance and ministries, not only though reports we receive, but also using the information reported by the citizens themselves. Unfortunately, we receive cases when officers use their power to abuse drives that respect all laws.
There was a period when this abuse was reduced, but it did not last long. We established that policemen use as pretext campaigns, to justify why they pulled over cars. Therefore, I requested today the Ministry of Internal Affairs to investigate why the abuse reappeared, who caused a faulty implementation of the law and I also requested for those responsible to be sanctioned.
Here, I requested the Ministry to ensure more transparency and clarity of national campaigns, organized in traffic, at the order of chief of National Patrol Inspectorate and to always post on the institution's official webpage: the campaign, zone and time when it will unfold, to prevent breaches.
Officers must patrol areas with high crime rates, to protect the citizens and ensure their safety, not to abuse people. We will monitor the situation to the moment when this issue will be completely eliminated and urge drivers to respect the traffic law, to not give officers any reasons to be pulled over and sanctioned" Vlad Plahotniuc declared.
