Why Deputy PM Iurie Leancă gave Maia Sandu $1M while she was Education Minister
Deputy PM Iurie Leancă took $1M from billionaire George Soros to give Maia Sandu for her to invest in education. It occurred when she was Education Minister. Iurie Leancă revealed this last night on a TV show.
"I supported her very much while she was Education Minister, with money from Soros by the way. In an apartment in New York, he asked me: look, what can I do? Ok, I give you a million dollars. I thought: well, for education, a part of it was given to specialists to help with the curriculum of the Ministry of Education, some was invested to modernize classes. If I'm not mistaken, 11 or 12 schools in Republic of Moldova were modernized, selected by Soros Foundation", said Leancă.
Iurie Leancă said he was surprised by attitude of Maia Sandu. She refused to negotiate a parliamentary majority with the parties in new parliament, including PDM.
According to Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, the PAS leader shows hypocrisy. In 2012, she was a member of coalition government formed with PDM. In 2015, she was part of government along with PDM. Maia Sandu didn't respond to a request for comments.
