Winter storm in Moldova. State of National Roads
(UPDATE 10:45) Representative from General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, urge citizens to be more cautious. Rescuers recommend drivers, before leaving, to gain information regarding the weather, state of the roads and to avoid driving if it is not strictly necessary. Still, in case people plan a long drive, the car must be properly equipped, with a shovel, sand and chains being kept in the trunk. Moreover, drivers must have at hand emergency food and warm beverage, as well as be dressed in warm clothes and ensure that their phones are charged.
Firefighters urge people to respect fire safety measure, especially when using fireplaces, or other heating devices.
(UPDATE 10:30) PM Pavel Filip has convoked an urgent meeting at the Government. The official requested continuous communication and efficient interaction among responsible authorities, in order to prevent any crises caused by the weather.
(UPDATE 10:15) According to INP, no highways are snowed in and on all road non-slip material is being spread. Also, 134 teams and 250 officers were dispatched to ensure traffic safety and assist citizens.
(UPDATE 09:42) Vulcănești Customs was closed due to roads being snowed in from the Ukrainian side. People who wished to cross the border there, can still go to other Customs located nearby, the closest one being Mirnoe Customs.
Restriction were also impose this morning on Cosăuți customs, after Soroca Customs has suspended its activity since yesterday. In both cases, the customs were closed due to frozen waters not allowing boats to sail on Dniester.
Here, people are urged to change their direction and cross at Otaci Cuostms, located nearby.
(UPDATE 09:05) Due to the snow fall, heavy trucks were forbidden from driving on the highway R 30: Anenii Noi – Căușeni – Ștefan Vodă, km 17 – 19, Troița Nouă settlement.
All heavy trucks will be pulled over at R 30, km 0 + 800 m, Anenii Noi.
According to representatives from InfoTrafic, on the roads is being spread skid-proof material.
(08:36)The winter will end with snow, cold weather and blizzard. The Capital, as well as other regions from the country are already experiencing snow. The roads will be frozen.
This morning in the Capital the snow has already begun causing a havoc. According to InfoTrafic, many streets are experiencing traffic congestion.
There are no snowed in roads or highways in Moldova.
Police reminds drivers:
- have in the car a bag of sand, shovel, blanket and warm beverage;
- use appropriate speed;
- do not try to pass another car on a dangerous road;
- driver sober.
In Briceni and Soroca people will experience today -10°C. In Bălţi and Orhei is forecast -9°C, while in Tiraspol -8°C. In the South, in Leova, Comrat and Cahul, people can expect to -7°C.
In the following days snow will continue to fall, while thermometers will show at day to -6°C, while at night drop to -12°C.
Meteorologists issued Yellow Warning of cold weather to 2nd March. During this time, temperatures at night will vary between -15..-19°C. On 1st March, in the North of the country, at night, is forecast -19..-23°C.
