World Bank offers Moldova loan of 52.5 million euros
The World Bank offers the Republic of Moldova a loan of 52.5 million euros. The decision was approved on April 24. The loan comes from the resources of the International Development Association and will be spent in tackling the coronavirus pandemic.
Part of the money would be directed to strengthen the health system in Moldova. Specifically, equipment and protective materials will be purchased for hospital employees, medical equipment for laboratories and consumables for intensive care units and ambulances.
The loan agreement also provides for the training of medical staff in providing care to patients with COVID-19.
Another part is allocated to mitigating the social risks caused by the coronavirus pandemic. In this regard, the World Bank will support the government's "Social Assistance" program. The international institution states that they will receive support, in particular, people infected with COVID-19, public servants who are at the frontline and families with children whose parents have lost their jobs due to the pandemic.
