World Bank will provide Moldova with €52.9M loan to address COVID-19 threats
The Republic of Moldova will receive 52.9 million euros from the International Development Agency (part of the World Bank), to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. The bill to ratify the financing agreement was approved by the Cabinet on May 13
The money will be used for the implementation of the "Emergency Response" Project, which will be implemented over two years.
Most of the credit, 29.2 million euros, will be directed to "strengthen the health system to ensure the care of patients infected with the new coronavirus, who are in critical condition, but also to minimize the risk of infection for patients and medical workers ”.
Moreover, 21.9 million euros will be allocated to social and financial support for poor households.
The loan repayment period begins on October 15, 2025 and ends on April 15, 2050. The aggregate interest rate (including service charges) is 0.75% per annum
The financing agreement will enter into force after its ratification by Parliament and after notification by the World Bank of the fulfillment of all internal legal procedures.
