Moldova’s Energy Regulator (ANRE) is expected to announce the highest price that the retailers may set for gas. The limit will be changed once in two weeks, if needed, taking into account the oil stock market indices in the world.

The new prices at the pump are to be set as later as Wednesday at midnight. Failing to observe the upper limit set by Energy Regulator will trigger severe penalties for the fuel retailers.

"Actually, once in two weeks, the prices will mirror the situation on the international markets we import the fuels from. We’re going to have a transparent texture of the prices the retailers set and the global trends will influence directly the retail prices," said ANRE chairman Sergiu Ciobanu.

ANRE decided on Monday to sanction 27 fuel companies, which raised the fuel prices. The increase was done according to an old methodology, invalid from March 13.

What’s more is that the companies having previously been warned may lose their licenses.
"We’ll see and we’ll observe the decision. Nobody says we’ll have to cut the price. ANRE may even set a bigger price," said the manager of a gas company.
