Government approves national strategy on radioactive waste management
To protect the environment, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a national strategy on management of radioactive waste for 2017-2026. The document is meant to ensure friendly conditions for a safe radiological activity, in line with international standards.
The strategy sets the goals, trends of action and needed specific measures to protect the population and the environment from harmful effects of radioactive sources on the period when the latter pose a radiological danger.
To implement the Strategy, the government will earmark both financial sources from the state budget and from the foreign assistance, provided to Moldova within cooperation projects with the International Atomic Energy Agency, other international organizations, as well as on behalf of states interested in strengthening the capacity of management of radioactive waste in Moldova.
