People with mental illness to receive treatment in residential area
Mental health community centers will be created nationwide by 2021. People with mental disorders will benefit of rehabilitation in these institutions. The measure is provided in the National Program on mental health for the years 2017-2021, approved yesterday, April 5th, by the Government.
The community centers will reduce the number of patients hospitalized with 50 percent
The new program also provides a national strategy to prevent suicide. In this context, they will be identified and monitored people who are likely to resort to suicide.
Also, approximately 700 family doctors and 300 nurses will be trained by the end of 2017 to provide medical care for people with mental illness.
Moldova registered 150,843 people with mental pathologies, of which 8 percent are children.
Currently the country operates 36 community mental health centers. The cost of the national program on mental health for the years 2017-2021 is about one million lei.
