Alarm! Hepatitis outbreak in Cahul: 9 people, including 7 children admitted to hospital
Hepatitis outbreak in the village of Tartaul de Salcie in Cahul district.
Since the beginning of this year, 12 cases of infection with type A hepatitis have been recorded in the locality. The last nine cases were recorded in mid-March, six of them still remain in the Cahul district hospital.
The mayor of Tartaul de Salcie claims that the virus would have been brought by two minors who would have gone to visit along with their parents in another district.
"In November a family was in a feast in Taraclia district and there they got infected, the first case was a kindergarten girl, after a while her brother also fell ill", said the mayor of villageTartalia de Salcie, Victor Focsa.
As a result of these cases, quarantine was instituted in the kindergarten and in the gymnasium in the locality. The administrators of the institutions assure that they have taken all necessary measures to prevent the spread of the infection.
On March 15, the last people suspected of having infected hepatitis A arrived at the Cahul District Hospital. Then nine patients were hospitalized, seven of them were minors. One of the cases turned out to be negative.
Representatives of the Public Health Center in Cahul district were not found either on the phone or in the institution to give us a comment on the subject.
The last recorded cases of hepatitis A occurred in Cantemir in the autumn of last year. Then, 12 people fell ill, including six children.
