Over 10 villages created security councils in Cahul
Cahul authorities in cooperation with regional police have set up local security councils in over 10 villages.
The information was presented by the head of the Cahul Inspectorate, Iurie Briceag, at today's extended meeting, attended by the representatives of the district, city, town halls, civil society and local media.
The extended format of the meeting is organized for the first time and is due to the Police Inspectorate's wish to inform the entire Cahul community about the activities of the Police.
"In the first half of the year more than 22 meetings of the Local Security Councils were organized, which allowed to solve a series of problems identified with the community," Iurie Briceag said.
Participants in the meeting were informed about the full spectrum of police activities, with particular attention paid to volunteering campaigns organized in the years 2017-2018, such as Neighborhood Surveillance and Grandmothers of Caring, as well as information actions permanently undertaken by law enforcement.
Campaigns are aimed at informing citizens about the ways to prevent house theft, vehicle deception and theft, preventing domestic violence, preventing and combating juvenile delinquency and victimization of minors, etc.
The most active police partners in the execution of community policing activities received honorable diplomas from the Cahul Police Inspectorate.
The actions taken by the Police Inspectorate in Cahul District were also reflected in the Survey on police activities in Cahul 2018, carried out by Public Police Institute.
Participants were familiar with poll results by IPP Director Arcadie Barbăroşie. According to statistics, the population's satisfaction with local police activity increased by 16%, from 60% in 2017 to 76% this year. Additionally, compared to the 2017 survey, there is an increase of about 20% of respondents' information on the location of different subdivisions in the locality.
We recall that the Public Policies Institute conducted in 2017 and 2018 two polls on police activity in six pilot regions of the project Promoting Civil Society Involvement in Strengthening Community Security. The project is implemented in partnership with PGI and financially supported by the US State Department.
