Chisinau remains resolute in documentary visit to Transnistria's Cobasna ammunition depot

Chisinau insists on organizing a documentary visit to the ammunition depot at Cobasna, with the participation of OSCE representatives. The statement was made by Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Cristina Lesnic, after a meeting with OSCE Special Representative Franco Frattini.
"The national security is always vital to Moldova, not only national but also regional security. This formerly Soviet ammunition depot is near Ukraine", said Cristina Lesnic.
"There are no precise, clear reports about this depot. But the ammunition found in this depot actually poses an ever-present threat to our region", added the Moldovan official.
Mr Franco Frattini reconfirmed this danger for which we must take a constructive approach.
"This ammunition poses a real threat to population. We have to see if there is a more positive approach to this. I don't answer this question now but I will look over this situation", said OSCE representative.
Meanwhile, during the meeting, Lesnic and Frattini addressed the Varniţa village problem, (Anenii Noi district), which was recently illegally included in the so-called "MRI" by the Tiraspol leader's decree. The OSCE Special Representative said he would examine this issue to find concrete solutions.
In the Cobasna weapons depot, remainder of over 20,000 tons of ammunition and weapons is estimated. The rather nondescript village of Cobasna is located around 200 kilometers from the border, which divides the Republic of Moldova from the separatist region of Transnistria.
