Since the state of emergency was established in Moldova, HIV patients have been receiving the necessary medicines without stepping out of their homes. The free delivery was organized by the Positive Initiative Association and the doctors from the Hospital of Dermatology and Communicable Diseases.

"I know very well how important it is to administer the preparations every day. Despite the epidemic and ongoing crisis, we must remember it's important to take ARV medicine so that the virus is permanently under control, "said Andrei Stolearenco, a representative of the Positive Initiative Association.

As of mid-March, more than 700 HIV-positive patients across Moldova received treatment at home.

According to the World Health Organization, in order to reduce all risks, people with the immunodeficiency virus must be provided with drugs for at least three months.

"The pills are given at the same time every day. The coronavirus epidemic should not be a barrier to antiretroviral therapy," said Svetlana Popovici, ARV treatment coordinator, SDMC.

Due to reduced immunity, HIV patients should now be even more cautious.

"Keep your social distance, wash your hands and don't forget that you have a major illness that you need to treat," said Svetlana Popovici.

On January 1, 2020, 9,500 HIV-positive people were officially registered in Moldova. Among them are 7,000 people who receive antiretroviral therapy, which is offered free of charge in Moldova.
