The Pilot Project for Development of Adventure Tourism in the Orhei Vechi Cultural and Natural Reservation will be launched this weekend on the occasion of the 3rd edition of the DescOper Festival.
The project involves arranging a series of hiking, trekking, cycling and bird watching areas in this area. The document also provides for the production of informative materials, which will contain information about the tourist attractions on each of the routes, pensions, restaurants and other elements of the tourist infrastructure in this area.
"Being a new player on the international tourism market, Moldova has managed to highlight the niche tourist product it offers, that is, focusing on both wine and gastronomic tours as well as on rural tourism and adventure tourism, which has captured tourists in search of authentic and interactive experiences, "said Diana Lazăr, deputy director of the USAID Moldova Competitiveness Project.
According to RunMoldova cofounder Iulian Bercu, adventure tourism is a perfect solution for both active leisure travel and amateur sports tourists: "They can use a range of routes with distances from three to a few dozen miles for hiking, running in a natural and unique historical environment, with free access at any time".
In the first phase of the Orhei Vechi Adventure Tourism project, three routes will be launched: The Butuceni Getic Fortress Route (4 km of hiking and bird watching), the Medieval Town (7 km of hiking and running) and the Gypsy Valley Route (5 km of cycling and running).
This project was implemented between June-August 2018 by the RunMoldova, MTB and Ecological Movement in Moldova, supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the USAID-financed Competitiveness Project, and the Government of Sweden and the National Tourism Association Receiver from Moldova.
