Last year alone, 10,000 people fell ill. In total, there are over 100,000 people affected by this disease. 400 of them are children.
"It is expected that over the next 20 years the number of patients will double, first of all it is a faster diagnosis, not as before the patients were complicated, but today they are much more evident," said the chairman of the Association of Patients with Diabetes , Boris Golovin.
Most often, diabetes occurs in people over 40 years of age, who have hypertension and are overweight.
"Now there are new methods of treatment, new ways to diagnose diabetes, modern technologies. The most important thing is to deal with prophylaxis," said doctor in medicine, Lorena Vudu.
Under these circumstances, authorities intend to take measures to detect this disease in time.
"In order to monitor the situation, an electronic register of patients suffering from this disease will be created. We hope that thanks to the implementation of this program, the number of those diagnosed in time will increase by 10%," said Parliament's deputy, Vladimir Vitiuc.
"All medicines, which are assigned to patients to keep under control but also treat complications in diabetes, are covered both from state budget sources through national programs and from sources of mandatory health care fund," said the Minister of Health, Labor and Protection Sociale, Svetlana Cebotari.
The large number of diabetes patients is characteristic of many countries in the region. Southeast European specialists met in Chişinău to discuss the problems of these patients.
"We pay special attention to prophylaxis, many screenings are being made to see the blood glucose levels. We do not do this in the hospital, but we go to public events and businesses, people do not come to the hospital alone." said Irina Iakovleva, a doctor from the Russian Federation.
Worldwide, over 430 million people suffer from diabetes.
