A 26-year-old Moldovan citizen is being investigated for attempted smuggling of valuables dating from ancient times.
All valuables: 5,259 Greek and Roman coins, three gold rings, two vessels of silver and bronze, a statue of marble and other metal objects were found by Leuseni customs officers last night, February 6th, in a suitcase of a truck.
The man was detained for a period of 72 hours in order to establish all circumstances of the case. The man denied to provide details of origin of the valuables,nor their destination.
A criminal case was opened, which provides punishment for up to 10 years in prison. The coins were submitted for examination to the National History Museum of Moldova, which will determine the exact dating of the goods.
