Moldova celebrates the Constitution Day. Today it is 24 years since the adoption of the Supreme Law of the country, which entered into force on August 27, 1994. In this context, Andrian Candu, Parliament Speaker, said that we need to learn to respect the Constitution.
"The Constitution is the supreme law that assures our fundamental rights and freedoms. 24 years after its adoption, we still have to learn to fight for these rights and freedoms to be respected and, importantly, to learn to respect it. Only in this way we will live in a free and friendly society, just as it says in the Constitution," the head of the Legislature said in a message on his facebook page.
PUBLIKA.MD reminds that So far, the Constitution has undergone several changes. That was in 2013, when Article 111 on the legal status of Gagauz Autonomy was amended. Another change took place in 2006, the death penalty was lifted. The last amendment to the Constitution was made on March 4, 2016, in Article 78 when the president of the country was elected by direct vote of citizens.
