Andrian Candu: Road safety - priority of Government
"Road safety is a priority concern for the government, this is why we have set up parliamentary control platform to analyze and evaluate policies on road safety", said the Parliament President at Working Meeting of Global Network of Road Safety Legislators - Updating the Road Safety Manifesto and Activities for 2018.
Andrian Candu made a presentation of the activities initiated as President of the Parliament and the Ambassador of Moldovan Road Safety.
The Speaker of the Parliament spoke about support to create a national road safety management entity, the Road Safety Fund and a database on the estimation of high-risk road sections.
Candu also announced the introduction of an educational road safety module, starting with the pre-school cycle. The speaker pointed out that Parliament, Government and civil society will continue to work together with international partners to ensure safe road infrastructure and to increase people's safety.
"This year, the government has launched a comprehensive national roadside program for Moldova, where the road safety component is addressed as a priority. All road infrastructure projects will be implemented taking into account European security standards," the Parliament Speaker said.
The talks at the meeting focused on the overall objectives which were equally supported by the UN and EU representatives. Moldova has subscribed to the commitments.
According to Andrian Candu, tragedies caused by accidents can be substantially reduced and people return home safely every day if we take into account the new requirements of road safety, infrastructure projects, and the correct education of all road users.
Andrian Candu, Parliament Speaker, is on a visit to the United States from April 11 to 19 April. The speaker delivered a speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Road Safety, several meetings with lawmakers and UN officials.
