The suspended mayor, Dorin Chirtoaca, remains in house arrest. The Appeals Court rejected his request to be released.
The decision was motivated by the fact that the Chisinau ex-mayor had previously tried to influence the witnesses in his case.
"The court rejects the lawyer's appeal and maintains the conclusion made by Chisinau Buiucani Court on 10 August 2017. The decision is irrevocable."
"There is reasonable suspicion that the defendant will influence the witnesses, will put pressure on them to change their declarations," the prosecutor Dumitru Robu said. The risk of preventing the proper criminal investigation is imminent.
Dorin Chirtoaca says it is an unfounded decision and will refer the Superior Council of Magistracy.
"This is an absurdity, first of all they are not witnesses, they are accused persons. It's worse to talk badly about me. It's deprived of logic, "said the suspended Mayor of Chisinau, Dorin Chirtoaca.
Dorin Chirtoaca was detained on May 25th and placed in house arrest for the parking lot case. He is accused of influence peddling.
The ex-Mayor risks for up to 7 years of jail and pleads innocent. The next hearing will be held in September.
