Cosauti-Yampol ferry stops working
The ferry activity, which links Moldova and Ukraine (Cosauti, d. Soroca – Yampol, Ukraine) was suspended today due to a technical glitch.
Requested by the Agency, the port captain Giurgiulesti responsible for safe navigation and shipping in Moldova, Victor Andrusca, said that this region ferry possesses a carrying capacity of 20 – 25 people and vehicles weighing up to 3 tons. "Yesterday, employees noticed that the ferry thread was torn and decided to change it. The decision was taken in order not to endanger the lives of people, related to that it was increased the water flow in the river Dniester from Ukraine," said Andrusca.
"The new cable is to be purchased in Ukraine and by the end of the day, hopefully to be replaced. However, people who want to travel to Ukraine, crossing river Dniester, can be transported by ferry from Soroca, having a regular schedule, " added the captain of Giurgiulesti port.
The ferry that connects Cosauti and Iampoli is administered by a private company and the Naval Transport Service of the Ministry of Transports and Infrastructure of Roads monitors the condition of the vessel.
The ferry circulation will most likely be resumed on 18 August morning, Moldpres reports.
