Epiphany is celebrated with services, traditions at Hancu Monastery

Orthodox Christians celebrate today, January 19th, Epiphany, the day the Lord Jesus Christ was baptized. Over a thousand people gathered at the monastery Hancu to take holy water and to dive into holy water.
Traditionally, the Monastery Hancu service begins at midnight, which didn't stop Christians to wait for hours for holy water. The bravest dived into icy water which it is said has healing powers.
Priests say that the holy water heal not only body wounds, but also the ones of the soul.
"We are becoming better, wiser, more patient, closer to God after holy water. It heals our bodies and souls" , said the priest of Hancu Monastery, Pavel Tabacari.
Finally, christians watched a firework show and a warm stake.
