Orthodox Christians honor St. Basil the Great today, January 14th.

The Feast of the Circumcision is celebrated with hymns from St. Basil in Eastern Orthodox churches today, as devotees observe both the Circumcision of Christ and the Feast of St. Basil the Great.

This day means the end of winter holidays and the start of the new year according to the old calendar. This morning, the Orthodox Christians went to church to hear the Mass. This day is all about traditions.

According to the state enterprise, over 55,000 are registered with the name Basil and over 10,000 with the surname. 

Among the ladies, the most popular name is Vasilisa, with more than 4,000 women and more than 500 called Vasilitsa.
