EU offers Moldova 100-million-euro aid to mitigate pandemic's economic damage
The European Parliament has approved the aid worth one hundred million euros for the Republic of Moldova. The money will be used to mitigate the pandemic's economic damage.
602 MEPs voted in favor of the decision, 80 against and seven abstained.
The amount is part of a three billion euro package allocated by the European Union for 10 candidate countries and states included in neighborhood programs in Eastern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
Most of the money is allocated to Ukraine - 1.2 billion euros, and Tunisia - 600 million euros.
As this is an emergency aid, the first tranche could be transferred this month.
Recently, the European Union decided to allocate another 87 million euros to support the Republic of Moldova in the fight against COVID-19. Some of this aid has already come to our country, and the rest will soon arrive. The granting of that support was not conditional on certain projects or reforms.
