Farmers have started gathering sugar beet harvest
Sugar beet growers from North of the country have started gathering the harvest. Farmers argue that lack of rains and high temperatures in August reduced the amount sugar beet forecasted, but not eh quality of beet.
This year, farmers expect a harvest of up to 17-per-cent, no less than 25 tonnes per hectare.
Experts from the Ministry of Agriculture are more optimistic. According to them, the harvest of the sugar beet may be about 31 tons per hectare.
This year, sugar beet was cultivated on an area of approximately 23,000 hectares.
