First interview with ASEM Rector: Who caused bribery scheme?
Professors from the Academy of Economic Studies (ASEM), who three days ago were arrested for bribery will not be dismissed until the final decision of the court, says the university rector, Grigore Belostecinic. He gave an interview, for the first time, after the controversial event.
"If the legal framework will allow us to forcibly dismiss these people, we will only dismiss them if their guilt is proved. Our reputation was prejudiced and I can not imagine how it can be restored back," said the ASEM Rector.
Grigore Belostecinic defends six ASEM professors, including three lecturers. He says the corruption scheme has been developed by intermediaries.
"One of six people is the secretary of a department, what are her possibilities of involving in this scheme? This network was developed outside ASEM by people who have absolutely nothing to do with ASEM. I know that one of them is an orphan. I gave indication, a year ago, no one would not be admitted to our institution, "said Grigore Belostecinic.
PUBLIKA.MD reminds that nine people, including six employees of the Academy of Economic Studies, were detained for receiving bribery of up to 500 euros. Several criminal cases for passive, active corruption and trafficking of influence have been opened on this case. After searches, more than two million lei were found at the suspects. The case came to the attention of Prime Minister Pavel Filip, who said that such actions destroy the future of Moldova.
