Central Bank is trading coins of 1 and 2 lei. Some citizens have already posted pictures on social media.
According to the Central Bank, coins of 5 and 10 lei will appear by the end of 2018.
The coins are supposed to optimize money usage in Republic of Moldova, according to the best international practices.
Additionally, Central Bank will save manufacturing money by replacing banknotes with metal coins. While the production price is similar, the coins are expected to last 10 times longer than banknotes.
All coins from Republic of Moldova are manufactures using aluminium, except for the 50 bani coin.
The new coins are not only comfortable and light, but can also be recycled.
